Biography

Life before MADtv

McDonald graduated from Servite High School, then went on to graduate from USC with a Business degree. While at USC, he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He became a loan officer at a bank in Los Angeles. McDonald has two brothers. His brother Jack McDonald, who worked at Fairmont Private Schools. His life would change when a friend of McDonald's took him to see animprov comedy show at Groundling Theater. Michael quit his job at the bank, and enrolled himself in Groundling's improv program. He was a member of the troupe from 1992 to 1997. During that time, he was also involved in the writing and directing of films for Roger Corman.

Later on, Michael McDonald would guest star in such shows as Seinfeld (in two episodes with two different parts), Just Shoot Me!, Scrubs and NewsRadio. He also made brief appearances in all three Austin Powers movies. McDonald had a starring role with Will Forte and Nicole Sullivan on the short-lived MTV show Clone High as the voice of Gandhi.

MADtv

McDonald joined the cast of MADtv in 1998, along with Andrew Bowen and Mo Collins, as a featured member, and has since become the member with the longest tenure in the history of the show (10 seasons). In due time, he would wind up leaving a big mark on MADtv with his memorable characters and outrageous humor. One of these characters was Stuart Larkin, a tyke who's rather tall for his age, and is emotionally distraught after the divorce between his mother (played by Collins) and his father, who left on Tuesday. Along with The Vancome Lady (Nicole Sullivan), Lorraine (Mo Collins), Ms. Swan (Alex Borstein), Bunifa Latifa Halifa Sharifa Jackson (Debra Wilson), etc., Stuart became one of the most famous characters on the sketch variety show.

Aside from Stuart, McDonald impressed with other characters, such as randy film producer Marvin Tikvah, Cal State Fullerton student Rusty Miller, nasty-mouthed Clyde, Abercrombie & Fitch model Cougar, depressed tow truck Persian Mofaz, and Fightin' Ron Fraser.

McDonald impressed with a variety of impressions, including favorite Bill O'Reilly, Bob Barker, Dr. Phil McGraw, John Kerry, John Ramsey, and Maury Povich.
