The Merchant Shipping Act 1988 c.12 is an Act of Parliament passed by the Conservative government of Margaret Thatcher. It aimed to prevent foreign fishing fleets from fishing in British territorial waters. It is a significant Act because of its constitutional significance in the Factortame case which asseted the supremacy of European Law over Acts of Parliament in which the Act of Parliament was in effect struck down.
