Memento (warning) is a novel with reporting elements, written by Czech author Radek John. The story goes in Prague in 80's. The book was published in 1986. The novel is written with literary language with elements of argot and slang of drug addicts. It is subjective narration from Michal's, main character's, point of view. The author wanted to warn public of rising drug problems in present days. Its importance lies in that it is the first work concerning this tabooized theme in the time of past totalitarian communism regime in Czechoslovakia. The situation at that time was that number of addicts was growing, but it had not been publicly discussed. It alerts to escape from problems to drugs, because dealing with them in this way have to end badly.
