Maryland Route 410

Maryland Route 410, known for most of its length as East-West Highway, is a state highway which traverses a series of inner ring suburbs of Washington, DC in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties in Maryland. Its entire length is inside the Capital Beltway and at some points is one block from the District of Columbia border. Route 410 begins in Bethesda in Montgomery County and ends near the New Carrollton Metro Station in Prince George's County. Its total length is 13.9 miles, 6.3 of them in Montgomery County and 7.6 of them in Prince George's County.

Route description

Montgomery County

Route 410 starts in Bethesda as two one-way streets off Wisconsin Avenue; eastbound traffic uses Montgomery Avenue while westbound traffic uses East-West Highway. The two streets mergeabout 0.5 miles later as East-West Highway, which continues through Chevy Chase to Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. Route 410 then turns into Burlington Avenue, which in turn becomes Philadelphia Avenue one block later upon entering Takoma Park. At its intersection with Carroll Avenue in Takoma Park, Route 410 becomes Ethan Allen Avenue until it passes New Hampshire Avenue, whereupon it enters Prince George's County as East-West Highway.

Prince George's County

Shortly after crossing into Prince George's County, Route 410 then forms the boundary between University Park and Hyattsville before entering completely into Riverdale Park. East-West Highway becomes Riverdale Road east of its its intersection with Kenilworth Avenue. Shortly after its interchange with the Baltimore-Washington Parkway Route 410 turns off onto Veterans Parkway, proceeding in a more southerly direction, where it ends at Pennsy Drive in the Ardwick Industrial Park just beyond the interchange with the John Hanson Highway (U.S. Route 50).

Transit

Various stretches of Route 410 are served by different Metrorail stations. Its western terminus at Wisconsin Avenue is near the Bethesda Metro Station on the western branch of the Red Line, while the Silver Spring Metro Station on the eastern branch of the Red Line is located at the intersection of Route 410 with Colesville Road. Further east, the Prince George's Plaza Metro Station on the Green Line is located off Route 410 near the intersection with Belcrest Road in Hyattsville, and the New Carrollton Metro Station at the eastern end of the Orange Line is located near the eastern terminus of Route 410. All of the aforementioned stations, and especially the Silver Spring and New Carrollton stations, also serve as hubs for regional buses.

Additionally, much of the proposed route for the Purple Line, a Metro line designed to connect outlying portions of the Red, Green, and Orange lines in the Maryland suburbs with each other, lies near Route 410.
