Makis Triantafilopoulos (Greek: Μάκης Τριανταφυλλόπουλος) is a controversial Greek journalist. He WAS, along with Themos Anastasiadis, the editor of the Proto Thema newspaper and host of two television programs, Zougla and Kitrinos Typos on Alter Channel. He uses his TV programs to expose major political and scandals on television, usually using controversial techniques like hidden cameras. Makis is considered by many as the top journalist in Greece and this was in part proven by the circulation of his newspaper (co-founder) Proto Thema, which is on top of the circulation list in Greece. Makis has worked in many of the country's biggest tv channels.

Major scandals exposed

Makis Triantafilopoulos during his long standing career has exposed many of the country's major scandals which cover a wide range of issues, usually involving ministers of the current government.

He is famous for exposing Stefanos Korkolis, Pachtas's scandal which practically deprived PASOK of 2-4% in the following elections, scandals involving the church and the patriarchate of Jerusalem and so many others.

On 11 February 2008, during his television program Kitrinos Typos, Makis revealed astonishing details about the 1999 case of a baby boy from Mytilene who was suffering from severe cancer. Approximately 350.000 euros were gathered by the Greek nation in a National Bank of Greece account, in order for the infant to be transfered and operated at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Using an old law, the bank managed to commit the money, thus forcing the family to hire Spiros Kladas, former lawyer and currently chief of the Special Investigations Service, a department of the Greek ministry of finance. The family accused the lawyer for idleness and delay, which lead to the decease of the baby. Supporting these claims, Makis presented documents which prove that Kladas appeared later on as a defense witness on behalf of the bank.

Personal life

Makis has a son from a previous marriage and is currently married to his much younger assistant, Kim Killian who worked in his journalist team and has two daughters with her.

Much controversy stems from the fact that Makis has never completed his military service due to self-proclaimed madness (which in itself is a usual way for skipping the military service).

Pop culture

Triantafyllopoulos is usually known with his first name, Makis, to the audience. Recently, and inspired from the Zachopoulos scandal, various Greek "Makis facts" inspired (and some taken directly) from the Chuck Norris facts circulated over the internet, which exhault Makis' supernatural journalistic and documentary abilities and omniscience, such as "Makis has a video documentary on the manufacturing of the first camera ever" and "Makis knows the ending of LOST"
