The noontime show gained popularity because of a segment called Pera o Bayong, a game of chance where at stake was either a cash prize of P1,000,000 or a showcase chosen by the contestants (e.g. entertainment showcase, living room showcase, livelihood showcase, etc.) which were hidden in either 3 "bayongs" (rattan bags) marked as M, T or B. At the same time, "MTB" gained notoriety because of its Calendar Girl beauty pageant, where the contestants were subjected to double-meaning questions and jokes thrown by Randy, John and Willie. Other popular segments included Sa Pula o Sa Puti, Munting Miss U, Japorms, Ano Ka Hilo?, Wansa Funny Taym and Winner Take All.
Due to its low ratings after several format and minor name changes, MTB was later canceled in February and replaced by Masayang Tanghali Bayan (A Happy Afternoon, People).
The game started off with 50 contestants - the group being asked multiple choice questions, with the people answering wrong being eliminated, and the people who chose the correct answer going on to play another question until 1 is left. Often questions contained joke answers that were obviously wrong, but people had been known to actually fall for these traps. If there were 2 remaining however, and they both chose the correct answer, the winner would be decided by how quickly they got to the answer.
The one person who was left moved on to the Jackpot round. In this round, there were 3 bayongs, labeled M, T, and B. The bayongs contained a piece of cardboard with the name of the prize on it. After the choice of bayong, the hosts would begin a series of bargaining sessions, offering different amounts of cash in exchange for the bayong. Possible prizes included PHP1,000,000, a new house, a living room showcase, an entertainment showcase, joke prizes such as produce, or even nothing.
In its early days, the prize that was inside the chosen bayong was revealed to the audience during the sessions, and sometimes family members had even been known to go to a TV inside the cafeteria at the ABS-CBN studios to see what the prize was, then try and influence the crowd to beg for the contestant to take whatever was in the bayong. After this was discovered however, the TV was switched off during the round, and later the prize was not revealed to anyone until it was actually opened.
After the cancellation of MTB, an improved version of Pera O Bayong debuted as a part of Wowowee, but with 7 bayongs and larger prizes. It was later replaced by Wilyonaryo in late 2007, and then by Merrygalo. The game returned in January 2008, this time with 10 bags.
