More recently the village was hit hard by the 2001 United Kingdom foot-and-mouth crisis.
The village is run by its own community council and its county council representative is Councillor Hywel Eifion Jones who has held the post since May 1999. As well as a Post Office it boasts a primary school, an art gallery and a golf complex which includes a nine hole course, 14 bay all weather driving range and putting green. There is also a clinic which specialises in Cognitive behavioral therapy in the village.
