Live Bait Squadron

The "Live Bait Squadron" was a blockading force of the Royal Navy during World War I used to close the English Channel to German traffic. It was composed of a force of submarines, and a core of obsolescent Cressy class armoured cruisers, with a destroyer screen.

On 22 September 1914, three cruisers were sunk by the German U-9. They were the Cressy, Aboukir, and Hogue. Bacchante, flagship of the squadron had returned to port to re-coal along with the destroyer screen, which had left due to rough seas.
