List of non-Japanese Doraemon versions

This is a list of Doraemon releases outside of Japan. Doraemon is a popular Japanese manga and anime series created by Fujiko F. Fujio and published by Shogakukan.

Hong Kong First introduced as 叮噹 by the children's magazine Children's Paradise (兒童樂園) in 1976. According to Shogakukan, this was the first release of Doraemon outside Japan. Philippines Doraemon was first published by JLINE COMICS CENTER and translated in tagalog in 2007 2000 Tagalog, Cebuano, Waray, Hiligaynon, Ilocano, Chavacano and Bicolano The character Jaian is known as Damulag (literally "big person" or "big kid" in Filipino). Doraemon is pronounced as "do-REI-mon".

  • In Italy, there are several popular theme songs, including DORAEMON gatto spaziale (Doraemon the space cat) sung by Oliver Onions and "A me mi piacerebbe un robot che farebbe i compiti miei"(Me would like a robot to do my homework, with intended grammatical mistakes), sung by Nora Orlandi .
  • In Spain, Doraemon is translated into five languages including Euskera, Catalan and Galician in addition to Spanish. The first Doraemon film was televised in 2000.

Middle East

The Old 1970s Doraemon TV series was broadcast from 1995 for some years on a few TV channels. However it has no great popularity, except with local otaku who have an interest in Japan.

North America

In North America, Viz Media is the master licensor for the series. There is a Doraemon webpage that can be seen on the "shows" section of their website. Unfortunately, like all other Fujiko Fujio properties, it never had an English release. They also had plans to publish the manga in English in the early 1990s, but it was never released in time, and the license was eventually dropped.

South America

In some Latin American countries, the show was called El Gato Cósmico (The Cosmic Cat) and the cat's name was Cósmico (Cosmic), yet sometimes named Doraemon.
