Liarea is a genus of terrestrial pulmonate gastropod molluscs in the family Liareidae.
Distribution
Species in this genus are
endemic to the
North Island of
New Zealand, being mostly concentrated in
Northland.
Description
Shells of this genus have a double continuous peristome, and mostly a
hydrophanous colour pattern, caused by regular loosening of the
periostracum in the form of axial streaks, zigzags, chevrons, or tesselations.
