She was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, and grew up in Singapore, where, in 1968, her media career began in both television and radio. Her varied career has included newsreading, research, reporting, interviews, selecting and programming music, voice-overs for commercials, and making in-flight programs for international airlines. She has a reputation for being a highly-professional and respected news anchor.
In 1992, she starred in a minor role as a newsreader in the independent Australian movie Resistance by Hugh Keays-Byrne. She also had a small role, playing a Thai interpreter, in the 1989 Australian mini-series Bangkok Hilton, with Nicole Kidman.
The fashion show Fashionista was built around her idiosyncratic fashion sense. She keeps up with the latest fashion trends and hairstyles, and has an extensive collection of glasses that correspond in colour to her outfits.
