Age of consent

When homosexuality became legal in 1998, the age of consent had to be set equal with heterosexual sex at 14.

Protection based on sexual orientation in law

There have been anti-discrimination laws in the Constitution since 1998. Ecuador is the first Latin-American country to ban discimination on ground of sexual orientation.

Recognition of same sex couples

There is no legal recognition of same-sex couples.

Gay life in the country

A gay scene has developed in Quito.
