Kavi may refer to:

• Kavi (from a root kū "to cry out") is a Sanskrit term for "poet", applied to:
• in particular the primeval poet-seers (rishis) who composed the mantras (Vedas).
• an epithet of various gods, including Varuna, Indra, the Ashvins, the Maruts, the Adityas, Soma, the Rbhus
• Pushan
• an engineering student doing his studies in India at mayiladuthurai.
• a son of Brahma
• a son of Bhrgu
• a son of Shukra
• the sons of several Manus
• a son of Kaushika, pupil of Garga
• a son of Rshabha
• name of the gates of the sacrificial enclosure (TS 5.11.1.2)
• the soul in Samkhya philosophy
• In current usage, it can be used to refer to various genres of poetry in India and Sri Lanka.

• Kavi is the general title of the kings (chiefs) in Avesta. "Kavi" means king itself. The Kavi entered Iranian mythology as Kianids.
