Katie Derham (born
Catherine Beatrice Margaret Derham on
18 June 1970) is a British newsreader. Currently employed by
ITN.
Background
Derham was born in
Stockport,
Cheshire,
England to
English parents. She was a student at
Cheadle Hulme School,
Cheadle Hulme, Stockport,
Greater Manchester and has a BA (Hons) in
Economics from
Magdalene College,
Cambridge.
Career
1990s
Derham began her broadcasting career at the BBC, starting as a researcher on
BBC Radio 4's
Moneybox. In 1995 she won the
Bradford & Bingley "Best Personal Finance Broadcaster Award" for her work as a presenter on
BBC Radio Five Live's
Moneycheck. She moved to BBC television in 1996 as a consumer affairs correspondent and was also a reporter on the long-running
Film programme.
2000s
Katie has hosted the
Classical BRIT Awards ceremony four times from 2001 to 2004
Derham is Media and Arts editor for ITV News. She also co-presents the ITV Lunchtime News she can also be seen co-presenting the ITV London news programme London Tonight both positions she took up in 2004. Since the relaunch of News at Ten in January 2008, Katie can be seen as an occasional stand-in co-presenter.
In radio, she presents the "Liverpool Concert" on Classic FM. In August 2008 she appeared in the BBC Two talent programme Maestro and has made guest appearances on shows such as The Alan Titchmarsh Show promoting her role in the talent programme.
Personal life
Derham is married with two children.
