Istočno Sarajevo (Serbian Cyrillic: Источно Сарајево; English: East Sarajevo) is the capital of the Republika Srpska entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina adjacent to its capital Sarajevo to its northeast. It is not a highly urbanized area despite officially being a city as it is basically the pre-war part of Sarajevo now in Republika Srpska.
It was previously known as Srpsko Sarajevo
(Српско Сарајево, Serb Sarajevo
) but the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina
adjudicated its name change.
