The
World Bank's Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) is an independent unit within the
World Bank Group. It
evaluates the relevance and impact of the Bank Group's support to
developing countries for reducing
poverty. The goals of IEG evaluations are to provide an objective basis for assessing results, to provide accountability in the achievement of development objectives, and to help learn from experience. The Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) was preceded by the
Operations Evaluation Department, the name of the entity changed after the Board of the World Bank adjusted its role to enhance the independence of the
World Bank Director-General Evaluation and integrate the evaluation function among the three entities of the World Bank Group, namely the IBRD, IFC, and MIGA.
