Illinois Republican Party

The Illinois Republican Party is the affiliate of the Republican Party in Illinois. As of 2005, it has been headed by Andrew McKenna, State Chairman. The party is one of only three legally established, statewide political parties in Illinois, the others being the Democratic and Green parties.

History

On May 9-10, 1860 the Illinois Republican State Convention was held in Decatur. At this convention Abraham Lincoln received his first endorsement for president of the United States.
