Hodges Figgis, Ireland's largest bookshop, is located on Dawson Street, Dublin, Republic of Ireland. It was founded in the 18th century (1768) and is mentioned in passing in James Joyce's novel Ulysses. (The shop has moved at least three times in the last 100 years, and the premises mentioned in Ulysses are now occupied by Waterstone's, almost directly opposite the present location.)
The store briefly housed a coffee shop on the first floor, but this was removed in 2002 during renovations to allow expansion of the space used for the shelving of stock. It is the largest bookshop in Ireland, stockng approx. 60,000 titles over four floors, specializing in Irish related titles, Fiction, Remainders and Academic titles.Hodges Figgis also operate the student bookshop in Dublin City University. Both Hodges Figgis and Waterstone's are now part of the HMV group of companies.
