An NHS district general hospital in Great Western Road, Gloucester, England. Gloucestershire Royal Hospital has more than 600 beds and 14 operating theatres. It serves western and southern Gloucestershire and parts of Herefordshire.
A hospital first appeared on the site during the 1914-1918 war and development accelerated in the 1960s. The majority of the wards are accommodated in a ten-storey tower which was started in 1970 and opened in August 1975. Each floor contains two 30-bed wards. A £50 million extension opened in 2005.
It replaced the Gloucester Royal Infirmary which stood in Southgate Street until its demolition in the 1980s to make way for a new building for the Bank of England.
