He was most famous for his steal of a James Worthy pass to score a game-tying layup in game two of the 1984 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the L.A. Lakers. The Celtics eventually prevailed in overtime.
As of 2006, he and his wife run a real estate business in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. Their son, Gerald Henderson, Jr. attends Duke University where he is currently entering his sophomore year and 2nd year as a member of the Duke basketball team. Along with Jon Scheyer, he is expected to fill the athletic swingman role that has been missing since the 2003-2004 season ended.
