George Washington Middle School is located at 1005 Mount Vernon Avenue in the city of
Alexandria, Virginia. It first opened in 1935 as a high school as a merger of two prior high schools named Alexandria and George Mason. It was converted to a middle school in 1971, as part of a reorganization of the
Alexandria City Public Schools System's secondary schools.
