George Carmont

George Carmont, (born June 30 1978 in Auckland, New Zealand) is a professional rugby league footballer for the Wigan Warriors of the Super League competition. His position of choice is centre. George is a strong defensive player who has continued to prove himself alongside team-mates such as Andrew Johns and Anthony Quinn. He is extremely accommodating to his fans and can be seen signing autographs and posing for photos after every game. He has represented New Zealand, USA and Samoa at international level.

The Samoan captain was expected to join either Harlequins or Wigan for the 2008 season with the latter seen as the more likely destination after the London side seemingly agreed a deal to sign David Vaealiki before the centre was confirmed as a new signing for Manly.

Carmont when asked about Newcastle "I’d like to stay here as long as I can, maybe I’ll try England if that doesn’t work out, but I’ll get what I can out of football while the body holds up," he said. "It beats working in a chicken factory."

In reaction to Newcastle not renewing his contract some of his fans created an online petition to try and get Newcastle to re-sign Carmont however on 27 November 2007 is was announced that he had signed a two year deal with European Super League club Wigan Warriors.

He has been named in the Samoa training squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.

He has been named in the Super League Dream Team for the 2008 season.
