Gavin & Stacey
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - Cite This SourceGavin & Stacey is a multi-award winning British sitcom originally aired on BBC Three and later shown on BBC Two, written by and starring Ruth Jones and James Corden and produced by Baby Cow Productions. Gavin is played by Mathew Horne and Joanna Page plays Stacey. The first series chronicled the two leads' developing romance. Although the series is set in Essex and Barry the first series was shot entirely in and around Barry Island. The second series will air from March 16 2008 on BBC Three .
The series is noted for its use of British Alternative/Indie music throughout the show. The credits theme to Gavin & Stacey is "Run", by Stephen Fretwell. The music used in the trailers was "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death from Above" by Cansei de Ser Sexy (better-known as CSS). The music used as the first series climax in episode 6 is Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.
Main Characters
- Gavin Shipman (Mathew Horne) - Gavin is 26 and lives with his mother and father in Billericay, Essex, England. His best friend Smithy lives just down the road. Gavin plans to try to drink a pint of every beer in the world with Smithy. Gavin supports Tottenham Hotspur F.C. and is seen wearing his Spurs shirt in many episodes.
- Stacey West (Joanna Page) - Stacey is also 26 and lives in Barry, South Wales. Her father, Trevor, died three years ago. She lives at home with her mother.
- Smithy (James Corden) - Smithy is Gavin's best friend and they've known each other since primary school. He loves Gavin's parents more than his own. He has an unseen girlfriend called Lucy, who according to Smithy is seventeen years old. He loves unusual beer, paintball and West Ham Utd.
- Nessa (Ruth Jones) - Nessa is Stacey's best friend, Barry born and bred. She is tattooed, and has a ciggie permanently in her hand. Nessa has many a notch on her bed post. She works at the Barry Island Amusement Arcades or "the slots". Little else is known about Nessa, apart from what she occasionally lets slips into conversation e.g. she's travelled the world on a cruise ship.
- Pamela Shipman (Alison Steadman) — Pam is Gavin's proud and doting mother. She is in her early fifties, typical of the Essex wife stereotype and is very houseproud. Pamela adores The Duchess of Cornwall and never misses an opportunity to mention her. She hates Diana, Princess of Wales; when Mick said Diana's name in episode 1 of the first series, she said, angrily: "We do not mention that hussy's name in this house".
- Mick Shipman (Larry Lamb) - Mick is Gavin's father. He is in his mid fifties and a down-to-earth guy, like his son. He's happy with his life - running his own company, playing golf and going to the pub quiz every Tuesday.
- Gwen West (Melanie Walters) - Gwen is Stacey's mother. She is a widow in her late forties. She is a home maker and regularly offers to cook Omelettes.
- Bryn West (Rob Brydon) - Bryn is Stacey's and Jason's uncle. He is the brother to Stacey's deceased father. He is single, unemployed and in his late forties. He lives across the road from Gwen and Stacey and is very protective of them.
- Jason West (Robert Wilfort) - Jason is Stacey's elder brother, son to Gwen and her late husband Trevor. Jason lives in Spain with his boyfriend Jose. Stacey and Gwen are comfortable with Jason being gay, but are sad that he lives abroad. Jason has a strained relationship with his Uncle Bryn. Gwen, Stacey and Nessa are aware of an unspecified incident on a fishing trip involving Bryn and Jason

Other versions
NBC has announced that it plans to make an adapt Gavin and Stacey for the United States. The American version will have Gavin coming from New Jersey and Stacey from South Carolina.References
