Federal Office for Civil Aviation of Germany

Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA) is the German National (civil) Aviation Authority (NAA), a government agency with its headquarters in Braunschweig (Brunswick), reporting to the Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Housing.

The LBA is responsible for developing and maintaining aviation safety standards, as well as certifying airlines, airports and training devices such a simulators and Flight Training Devices (FTDs).

The equivalents of the LBA in other parts of the world are the FAA in the USA and EASA in the European Union. In other countries the term CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) is often used.
