Farrukhabad, joint municipality with Fategarh (total 1991 pop. 208,727), Uttar Pradesh state, N central India, on the Ganges River. It is a district administrative center and a market for tobacco, fruit, and potatoes. Perfume, cotton prints, and saltpeter are manufactured. A fort was founded (c.1714) on the site of the present-day town by the Afghan ruler Nawab Muhammad Khan. Farrukhabad was captured by the Marathas in 1751 and ceded to the British in 1802. The town's British garrison was attacked during the Indian Mutiny of 1857.

Farrukhabad one of three tehsils in the Farrukhabad District of the State of Uttar Pradesh in northern India. The other two tehsils are Kaimganj and Amritpur. The city was founded in 1714 by Mohammad Khan who named it after the Mughal emperor Farrukhsiyar .
