The Evinos, Evenus, or Euenos (Greek: Εύηνος) is a river in Aetolia-Acarnania, Greece. It rises in the mountains near Artotina, and empties 92 km later into the north side of the Gulf of Patras near Krioneri, east of the Messolonghi lagoon.

Mythology

The eponymous King Euenos drowned in its waters while chasing Idas, who had seized his daughter, Princess Marpessa. The centaur Nessus carried travelers across the Euenos on his back for a fee. When he carried Deianeira, Heracles' wife, he molested her, and Heracles shot him, the beginning of the story of the Tunic of Nessus.
