Eoin McDowell

Eoin McDowell (born February 4, 1988) is a rugby player at Wanderers F.C. Dublin. Although normally considered a flanker he has been playing second row for the Youth Academy.

Schools Rugby

Eoin played for the Gonzaga College Panthers from 2004-2006, reaching the final of the Leinster Forsters Cup in 2006. Unforunately he broke a metacarpel in the semi-final victory against Blackrock College and subsequently missed the final where his undoubted talent derserved to be on show. Head Coach, Gareth Pelly, has gone on record saying Eoin's abrasive physical presence was sorely missed and one of the primary reasons for the defeat at the hands of Belvedere College in the final. He also won the Leinster Junior league in 2003.

Club Rugby

Despite interest from numerous clubs, Eoin chose to play for the stronghold of Irish club rugby, Wanderers F.C. Dublin. He quickly settled into the Academy side and forged a formidable Second Row partnership with Fergus O'Higgins. According to speedy winger Daniel Bergin his "athleticism in the air meant we were unrivalled come line-out time".

The future looks bright for this prodigous talent, and if he can deliver on his extraordinary early promise it has been suggested by leading Wanderers board members that he could take over from Malcolm O'Kelly in the Leinster side.
