The area residents mostly work in the city of Peterborough, or commuters who travel to Oshawa at many of the manufacturing plants there.
The township also has several campgrounds and is considered a recreational area with numerous cottages.
Its first settlers include a number of those brought over to the Peterborough area from Cork, Ireland. 237 were part of the Peter Robinson immigration plan of 1826, adding to the townships base of 67 residents. The township is home to the championship Ennismore Eagles minor hockey team, who have won the Ontario Juvenile title several times, including a six year streak between of 2002-2008.
