Englehart is a
town in the
district of
Timiskaming,
province of
Ontario,
Canada. (
2006 population 1,494.) It was built in 1908 by the
Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway, what would later become the
Ontario Northland Railway, as a rest stop between
North Bay and
Cochrane. The town was named after Jacob Lewis Englehart, a key figure in the development of the T & N.O. Today, Englehart's importance as a railway town has diminished, and the biggest employer is an oriented strand board (OSB) facility owned by Grant Forest Products.
