Egaleo FC (Greek: ΠΑΕ Αιγάλεω) is a Greek association football club based in Egaleo, a suburb of Athens, Greece.

History

Egaleo was formed in 1931 by Demetrios Haniotis and Georgios Aronis as the Athletic Union of Ierapolis (Greek: Αθλητική Ένωση Ιεραπόλεως - Athlitiki Enosis Ieropoleos). In 1946, four clubs in the district merged with AE Ierapoleos to form the Athletic Club Egaleo (Greek: Αθλητικός Όμιλος Αιγάλεω - Athlitikos Omilos Egaleo). This club enforced 1960/1961 for the first time promotions in season to the highest division of Greek football. In the season 1970/71 the club finished as fourth, the highest class ring ever. In season 2004/05 for the first time Uefa cup football was gained, in group E with FK Partizan, S.S. Lazio, Middlesbrough FC and Villarreal but Egaleo fell out with only 1 point. That same season Egaleo FC finished 6th in the Greek league after PAOK with 45 points.

The team plays in the "Stavro Mavrothalassitis" stadium, named after an old mayor of Egaleo who played an important role in the stadium's construction. The stadium's capacity is 8,217. The current coach is George Vazakas and the club colours are blue and white.

After a truly disappointing season in Super League Greece, Egaleo is being relegated to B' Ethniki.
