Edell Shepherd

Edell Eugene Shepherd (born May 18, 1980 in ) is an American football wide receiver for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League. He was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2002. He played college football at San José State.

Shepherd has also been a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Texans and Detroit Lions.

Early years

Shepherd attended Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, California, and was a letterman in football, track and field, and tennis. In football, as a senior, he made 39 receptions for 635 yards (16.28 yards per reception avg.) and five touchdowns. Edell Shepherd graduated from Dorsey High School in 1999. Son of Edell Shepherd, who is a musician, producer, arranger and keyboardist from Los Angeles.

College career

Shepherd attended West Los Angeles College for two years. As a sophomore, he won JC All-American honors.

Professional career

Chicago Bears

Shepherd signed with Chicago in 2002 as an undrafted free agent. After spending the first month of the season on the Bears’ practice squad, Shepherd played for the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

He played two games for Tampa Bay in 2003, making his NFL debut on December 7, 2003. After spending 2004 on the disabled list, Shepherd played in all of Tampa Bays 16 2005 games.

Houston Texans

Shepherd played seven games for Houston in 2006.

Detroit Lions

He spent 2007 out of the league after being released by Detroit,

Denver Broncos

On July 26, 2008, Shepherd was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a torn ACL.
