Dumont, Pierre Étienne Louis, 1759-1829, Swiss jurist and political writer. Dumont knew Mirabeau well and wrote many of his speeches. His Souvenirs sur Mirabeau (1832) is a valuable record of the times. An important work of Dumont was his French edition (1802) of Jeremy Bentham's Introduction to the Principles of Morals and Legislation (1789).
Dumont, borough (1990 pop. 17,187), Bergen co., NE N.J.; settled 1677 by the Dutch, inc. 1894. It is a primarily residential suburb of Hackensack.
