Dumas also claims the song I'm a Ding Dong Daddy From Dumas was written about the city. The song was written in the late 1920s by Phil Baxter. The city of Dumas, Arkansas, also claims that the song refers to it.
Dumas is the home of veteran Republican State Representative David A. Swinford.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13.3 km²), of which, 5.1 square miles (13.3 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.39%) is water.
In a recent interview, the actor Chris Cooper (Breach) he stated that he had several Texas connections: both his father and mother were born in Texas, and his great-grandfather, Louis Dumas, founded the City of Dumas.
There were 4,755 households out of which 42.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.6% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.7% were non-families. 19.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.29.
