Doxa Dramas FC (Greek: Δόξα Δράμας), the Glory of Drama, is a football club based in the city of Drama, Greece.
The club currently competes in the 3rd Division - North (Γ' Εθνική) of the Greek National Football Championship.
History
During World War I, near the city of Drama, Macedonia, a team of English soldiers who played football regularly in their camp inspired the local Greek population to create the first football club in the region. Founded as Pileas in 1918, the team was renamed Doxa (Greek: Δόξα) in 1919.Initially, the team colors were black and white with the logo of a black clover. After the war the team's logo was permanently changed to a black eagle, while the team colours of black and white remain until today.
The first formal match of Doxa was against Kavala, the team of a neighbouring town with the same name. In that first game Doxa won 3-0. Doxa Dramas's fortunes changed after the end of the civil war in Greece (1946-1949), eventually reaching Alpha Ethniki, the highest tier of Greek club football. Doxa reached the final of the Greek football Cup in 1953/54, 1957/58 and 1958/59, but lost all three finals to Olympiacos CFP. Even today, some bitterness still remains amongst Doxa Dramas fans, as it is believed that at that time Olympiacos enjoyed the support of the government. Doxa Dramas participated in Alpha Ethniki for 19 seasons. Financial and administrative turmoil, however, led to the club being relegated to Greece's amateur division, Delta Ethniki. Today, Doxa Dramas are considered a powerful team in the third tier of the Greek football championship, Gamma Ethniki. Its goal is to return to the Alpha Ethniki in the foreseeable future.
The stadium of Doxa Dramas has a capacity of 10,000 people and it is situated in the eastern part of the town of Drama, in the district of Komninoi.
