Devonshire Regiment

The Devonshire Regiment was an infantry regiment of the British Army.

The regiment began its military career in 1685 and was amalgamated into The Devonshire and Dorset Regiment in 1958.

Timeline

• 1685 The Duke of Beaufort's Regiment of Foot (also known until 1751 by the names of ten other colonels)
• 1751 became the 11th Regiment of Foot
• 1782 11th (the North Devonshire) Regiment of Foot
• 1881 The Devonshire Regiment reorganised as the county regiment of Devonshire, encompassing also its Militia and Volunteer infantry
• 1958 amalgamated with The Dorset Regiment, to form The Devonshire and Dorset Regiment
