Day of Wrath (Danish: Vredens Dag) is a black and white film made in 1943 by Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer. The film is an adaptation of Anne Pedersdotter by Norwegian playwright Hans Wiers-Jenssen. The protagonist of the film is the character Anne, played by Lisbeth Movin.

Made during the period of the Nazi occupation of Denmark (1940-1945), the film's tale of individuals living in a repressive and paranoid society takes on added gravity.

Synopsis

Day of Wrath is set in a 17th century Danish village where an old woman is accused of witchcraft, which she had confessed to in order to save the film's main character, Anne. Faced with death at the stake, however, she denounces Anne and this sets in motion the rest of the film.
