The
Danube Province (Tuna Vilayeti) was a
vilayet of the
Ottoman Empire from
1864 to
1878. The vilayet was created as part of Ottoman administrative reforms of 1864 from the northern parts of
Silistria Province along the
Danube River and provinces of Niş and Rusçuk. It included most of what is now
Bulgaria (including
Southern Dobruja), except the southeastern part of it as well as the
Romanian region of
Northern Dobruja. The vilayet was subdivided into the
sanjaks of
Rusçuk,
Sofya,
Tırnova,
Niş,
Tulça,
Varna, and
Vidin. It was divided among
Bulgaria,
Serbia and
Romania in 1878.
