Danton is a
1983 French language film adaptation of the play
The Danton Case by
Stanislawa Przybyszewska, depicting the last months of
Georges Danton. It stars
Gérard Depardieu in the title role and
Anne Alvaro, directed by
Andrzej Wajda. The film was made by the
Polish director
Andrzej Wajda and was an
international co-production between companies in
France,
Poland and
West Germany. All supporters of Danton (with exception to Bourdon) are played by
French actors, while Robespierre's allies by Polish. There are significant ideological differences between Wajda's film and Przybyszewska's play, particularly with regard to the figure of Robespierre.
