Daniel Peter Masterson (born
March 13,
1976) is an
American actor, known for his role as
Steven Hyde in
That '70s Show and as an outspoken member of the controversial
Church of Scientology.
Biography
Career
Masterson starred as Justin in
Cybill, Jimmy Girvin in
Roseanne, and has made several guest appearances on
Punk'd and
MADtv. He is a co-owner of
Dolce, a restaurant he founded with
That '70s Show co-stars
Ashton Kutcher, and
Wilmer Valderrama. Masterson also frequently
DJs at
Los Angeles night clubs under his name, DJ MomJeans, formerly DJ
Donkey Punch. DJ MomJeans played a 2 hour set at the 2008
Lollapalooza festival in
Chicago. Masterson also co-hosts a Monday night radio show titled
Feel My Heat, on
Indie 103.1 in Los Angeles, California.
Personal life
Masterson was born on
Long Island, New York, the son of Carol (his manager) and Peter Masterson, a
State Farm Insurance agent. The two divorced in 1984. He has a younger brother,
Christopher Masterson, who portrayed the unruly Francis on
Malcolm in the Middle as well as the recurring character Todd on
That '70s Show. His other younger siblings are: younger
paternal half-brother, Will Masterson (who attends the University of Southern California); younger
maternal half-brother Jordan Reaiche (pronounced Reesh); and a maternal younger
half-sister named Alanna Reaiche. Alanna appeared in an episode of
Malcolm in the Middle and was on
Y&R as Colleen Cecile Carlton in 1994–1995. Jordan and Alanna's dad Joe Reaiche (who was a famous professional
Rugby League player back in Sydney Australia); raised Danny and his brother Chris as well. The families have grown up in professional environments and despite remarriages are still close.
Masterson is a member of the Church of Scientology in which he was raised. He once said, "I have been acting since age 4. I have always been working and I have always been in Scientology my entire life. Each service in Scientology is something I have added to my toolbox of data for living. In December 2005, he helped promote the gala opening of Scientology's controversial "Psychiatry: An Industry of Death" museum.
Danny was engaged to model/actress Chrissie Carnell for six years and the pair lived together, until 2003. He was quoted in InStyle magazine as calling Carnell, "the love of my life." He is currently dating socialite and fellow Scientologist Bijou Phillips from 2004 onwards.
With his brother Chris, and That '70s Show co-star Laura Prepon, Danny invested in Card Player magazine. He currently resides in Los Angeles and New York. Danny was a child model at the age of four. He co-hosted the Fox-TV special Woodstock '99 with That '70s Show co-star Wilmer Valderrama. He is best friends with That '70s Show co-stars Wilmer Valderrama and Ashton Kutcher.
