Democratic People's Party (Turkey)

The Democratic People's Party (Demokratik Halk Partisi, DEHAP) was a left-wing, pro-Kurdish political party in Turkey. DEHAP was founded October 24 1997. It is the continuation of the People's Democratic Party (Halkın Demokrasi Partisi, HADEP), which was banned by the Constitutional Court for alleged connections to the outlawed the Kurdistan Workers Party.

At the last legislative elections on the third of November 2002, the party won 6.2% of the popular vote, thus not reaching the 10% threshold for gaining representation in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

On August 17 2005 DEHAP announced its merger into the Democratic Society Party (DTP) founded by Leyla Zana.
