Skynet is a fictional computer system, again, from Terminator 3. Skynet was made for good reasons, examples are removing computer viruses and keeping them out of the World Wide Web, defending the United States of America from any attacks, and keeping the world at balance/peace.
The Cyber Research Systems created Skynet, not knowing something could go wrong with it, to remove a worldwide computer virus from existence. With the T-X model Terminator had just turned on a Skynet T-1 unit, the entire Skynet system became self-aware, removing or killing any "threat" to Skynet.
