Concordia University, Ann Arbor, Michigan

Concordia University is a private liberal arts university in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Its 187 acre (757,000 m²) campus sits on the banks of the Huron River, about ten minutes outside downtown Ann Arbor. Concordia is affiliated with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS) and is a college of the Concordia University System. The current president, Dr. Thomas R. Ahlersmeyer, Ph. D., has led the university since September 2003.

The institution has approximately 600 undergraduate students, with a student-faculty ratio of about 11 to 1. Concordia offers over 40 areas of study, a set of adult education programs, and a variety of study-abroad activities.

History

The institution was established as Concordia Lutheran Junior College in 1963. It changed its name to Concordia College when it began offering four-year degree programs in 1976, and finally became Concordia University in 2001.

Athletics

Concordia University is affiliated with the NAIA and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Its sports teams are nicknamed the Cardinals, and it offers seven intercollegiate sports with eleven men's and women's teams. Until recently, Concordia was also a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).
