Circle (jazz band)

Circle was an early 1970s avant garde jazz ensemble. Its core members were

• Chick Corea, piano
• Dave Holland, bass
• Barry Altschul, drums and percussion.

For some of its existence it also included Anthony Braxton in a leading role on several reed instruments.

The group's recordings evoke interest in their own right; additionally, they document a period in which Corea's work was steeped in the jazz avant garde, prior to his complete shift to the jazz fusion orientation.

• Song Of Singing (Capitol)

As a quartet:

• Paris Concert (ECM 1018/19), a live concert, documenting the group in quartet format, in which Braxton plays a leading role.
