The Chevy Rock and Roll 400 is a NASCAR Sprint Cup stock car race held at the Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia. Starting in 2004, the race served as the last race in NASCAR's "regular season" as the top ten point earning drivers and their teams held a playoff to determine the Sprint Cup champion. As the race is rock and roll themed, the trophy is in the form of a custom painted electric guitar, while select cars are run with special paint schemes that promote rock music artists.
Because of its proximity (and has been held) to Patriot Day, the Pledge of Allegiance is included as part of the opening ceremony.
The 2008 Chevy Rock and Roll 400 will be raced on September 7 with live coverage on ESPN as an Sunday afternoon race, because of Tropical Storm Hanna. The race was to take place the night before, but was moved by NASCAR officials because of the forecast for that night called for Rain and heavy winds from Tropical Storm Hanna.
Three Days Grace will play the concert before the race.
