word meaning "deep water," likely a reference to -long Lake Chelan

Chelan County was created out of Okanogan and Kittitas Counties on March 13, 1899.

The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the county, the population was spread out with 28.00% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 27.20% from 25 to 44, 22.70% from 45 to 64, and 13.90% who were 65 years of age or older.
