Charles P. Steinmetz Academic Centre
Charles P. Steinmetz Academic Centre, also known as Steinmetz High School, is a public high school serving students in the northwest side of Chicago, Illinois. It is named for the handicapped inventor Charles Proteus Steinmetz.
In 1995, Steinmetz' Academic Decathlon team, led by coach Jerry Plecki, defeated powerhouse Whitney Young High School for the Illinois high school state championship. However, an investigation later revealed that Steinmetz had secured a copy of the final test questions before the championship took place. Afterwards, Steinmetz was forced to surrender their state title to Whitney Young. The incident was dramatized in the 2000 television movie Cheaters, parts of which were filmed (without permission) at Steinmetz.
