Wikipedia
Chambersburg was a municipality that existed in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States, from 1872 to 1888. Chambersburg is now a section of Trenton.

Chambersburg was named for Robert Chambers, a founder of the area, whose family is memorialized by Chambers Street (which passes through the area). Robert Chambers died in 1865, shortly before the borough was created.

Chambersburg was incorporated as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 2, 1872, from portions of Hamilton Township. On March 27, 1874, the municipality was reincorporated as the Borough of Chambersburg Township. On May 1, 1888, Chambersburg was annexed to Trenton.

Chambersburg is mostly widely known as the home of fictional bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. A significant portion of each of the novels featuring Plum takes place in or around "The 'Burg."

Community

Once widely regarded as the "Italian section" of the city of Trenton, Chambersburg, "The 'Burg," is home to a variety of Italian restaurants and bakeries as well as Italian festivals, namely the Feast of the Madonna (sometimes referred to as the Feast of the Lights).

Over time the area has experienced a significant decline, in 2008 it is now home to different pools of minorities, namely Hispanics and Blacks.

Italians who trace their roots to Chambersburg have scattered into various areas and levels of economic advancement, but most still consider "The Burg" to be home, in some way.

An article on the history of Chambersburg and some notable residents appears online, copied from the Trentonian: The City of Trenton is home to numerous neighborhoods and sub-neighborhoods. The main neighborhoods are taken from the four cardinal directions (North, South, East, and West) Trenton was once home to large Italian, Hungarian, and Jewish communities, but since the 1960s demographic shifts have changed the city into a relatively segregated urban enclave of poorer African Americans. Italians are scattered throughout the city, but a distinct Italian community is centered in the Chambersburg neighborhood, in South Trenton. This community has been in decline since the 1970s, largely due to economic and social shifts to the more prosperous, less crime-ridden suburbs surrounding the city. There are still a few old time Italians scattered throughout Chambersburg.
