California's 17th congressional district

California's 17th congressional district covers all of Monterey and San Benito counties, as well as part of Santa Cruz County. It includes all of the coastal communities surrounding Monterey Bay, the city of Salinas, as well as the vast majority of the Salinas River Valley, one of the most fertile agricultural areas in the United States. It is one of 53 congressional districts in California. The current Representative for this district is Democrat Sam Farr.

Voting

John Kerry received 66% of the vote in this district in 2004; George W. Bush received 33%. The district voted for Arnold Schwarzenegger 48-45% in 2006, Dianne Feinstein 69-25% in 2006, Barbara Boxer 66-29% in 2004, keeping Gray Davis 58-42% and Cruz Bustamante 40-38% in 2003, and Davis 55-32% in 2002.
