Boardman High School is a public
high school in
Boardman, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Boardman Local School District. The first high school, located on Market Street, is now Boardman Center Middle School. In 1969, the new high school was built on Glenwood Ave. Since then, a new performing arts center was added on by donation, including a substantial sum by former student and football star,
Bernie Kosar.
Music
In 2006 the music department was selected as a 'Grammy Signature School' and received a $1,000 reward. The music department was one of 16 schools selected for this honor. The department consists of award-winning choral, band, and orchestra departments. The Choral department is under the direction of Emily Slaven. The Band is under the direction of Thomas M. Ruggieri. The Orchestra is under the direction of Frank Dispenza.
Notable alumni
- Elizabeth Hartman, Academy Award-nominated actress (A Patch of Blue).
- Maureen McGovern, an American singer ("The Morning After," "Can You Read My Mind") and Broadway actress.
- Phil Keaggy, noted Christian artist/phenomenal guitarist – former member of Glass Harp. (Attended BHS but is not a graduate.)
- Dave Dravecky, Major League pitcher (San Diego Padres/San Francisco Giants), 1982-1989. Known for his comeback from bone cancer in his pitching arm, which ultimately ended his career and resulted in its amputation.
- Bernie Kosar, retired NFL Quarterback. Won a national championship at the University of Miami before beginning a distinguished NFL career, most notably with the Cleveland Browns. (class of 1982)
- Terence Dials, former student and Ohio State Basketball player and 2006 "Big Ten Player of the Year" went undrafted. Terence is currently playing overseas.
- Steve Vallos, NFL lineman. Played for Wake Forest before being drafted in the 7th round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. (class of 2002)
- John Greco offensive tackle for Toledo, was drafted in the 3rd round by the St. Louis Rams
- Nanette Lepore, Noted fashion designer.
- Edgar Mosco, World Champion Tap Dancer.
