The Birmingham-Hoover, AL MSA (metropolitan statistical area), also known as Greater Birmingham, is made up of 7 counties in central Alabama. The area is also part of the Birmingham-Hoover-Cullman, AL CSA. The population of the metro area as of the 2007 census estimate was 1,108,210. It is the 48th largest metropolitan area in the United States according to the 2000 U.S. Census.
